    The Internet Users and Cybercrime in Ghana: Evidence from Senior High School in Brong Ahafo Region

    Cybercrime, an offence that is committed against individuals through the internet has bedeviled the global online industry. Cybercrime is also criminal activity using internet facilities such as virus infections, identity theft and hacking. There is high risk of becoming a victim especially young internet user. All efforts to combat it have not worked much. The study examined the awareness of Senior High School students towards cybercrime in order to suggest policies to deal with this menace. The study underpinned by social strain theory. The study employed descriptive survey design. Simple sampling technique was used to select 200 students from Sunyani Senior High School. Questionnaire was used in eliciting responses. The study revealed that the major forms of cybercrime were hacking, credit card fraud, software piracy and cyber identity theft. Again, the study indicated that the major consequences involved in engaging in cybercrime are inimical to the progress and development of a country and tarnishing the country reputation. Gender had no significant influence on the knowledge of students towards cybercrime. We recommended that cybercrime court should be established in Ghana to speed up prosecution of cybercriminals and encourage more judges and lawyers to specialize in cyber law

    Use of electronic resources by postgraduate students in University of Cape Coast

    The study investigates the use of electronic resources by postgraduate students in University of Cape Coast (UCC). It specifically targets first year postgraduate students of UCC. Awareness, usage, training, and access were explored. A survey method was employed and a structured questionnaire was utilized to solicit data. The findings revealed that, though students are aware of electronic resources, they do not fully utilize them to support their academic pursuit due to poor level of information literacy skills. However, few students had not participated in all information literacy skills training organized by the library. Results from the study showed that, significant number of postgraduate students do access electronic resources when on campus and mostly use electronic devices such as laptops, ipad, desktop computers, and mobile phones. The findings indicated that students use the electronic resources to complete assignments, write project work, to update lessons note, for research, and update themselves on new information in their fields of study. It was recommended that a structured curriculum should therefore be established as part of postgraduate students’ normal lecture periods where time is allocated on their time table for electronic resource training, and if possible, credited to their academic performance ratings or grading

    Information and Communication Technology Assess and Use by Teachers of Community Health Nurses Training School in Adansi Fomena

    Teaching using technologies has helped in making learning flexible, accommodating and increases potential learners. This study examines the information and communication technology assesses and use by teachers of community health nurses training school. The purposive sampling technique was used to select all the thirty teachers. The data was analysed using frequency, percentages, chi-square, bivariate correlation, t-test and linear regression. The study revealed that majority of the teachers has high competence level in ICT usage. The findings of the study showed that majority of the teachers have access to ICT tools such as computers, mobile phones, and personal digital assistants. The three major barriers hindering the integration of the use of ICT by teachers are inadequate teaching and learning materials, lack of time and high cost of ICT equipment. Results showed that ICT competence level positively and significantly correlate with access to ICT device. Again, male and female teachers ICT competence level were not significantly different from each other. We recommend that there is the need to implement policy direction to deal with issues such as provision of computer laboratories, staffing the laboratories with technology assistants in supporting ICT usage by teachers

    Utilization of library resources by lecturers in university of cape coast

    This research work was designed to examine the utilization of library resources by lecturers in University of Cape Coast. The objective of the study was to find out the level of availability of library materials in the university, and determine the extent of use of the materials by lecturers. It is also to find out factors that impede lecturer’s use of the library and make recommendations for improvement. A descriptive survey was used for the study. In all, 200 lecturers were selected for the study. The lecturers were selected using random sampling. Statistical tools used for the analysis were frequency counts and mean scores. The major finding of the study is that there are many library resources such as textbooks, journals, research monographs, research reports, newspapers, indexes/abstracts, internet services and dictionaries/encyclopedias amongst others, and that lecturers use the library mainly for consultation of reference materials. They also use it for research purposes and borrowing of books. A major finding was also that lecturers utilized books more than any other source of information. A number of recommendations were put forward for improvement of library use but the most prominent suggestion was that more up to date and relevant materials should be acquired by the library, and lecturers should be informed of newly acquired materials

    Assessing the Integration of ICT Resources in Teaching and Learning in Selected Senior Secondary Schools in Cape Coast Metropolis

    Despite the effort Government and other stakeholders are making to support Ghanaian senior high schools in information and communication technology (ICT), most of the schools are teaching ICT as an isolated subject rather than integrating the ICT resources into the educational curriculum to improve teaching and learning. The objective of the study was to assess the integration of ICT resources in teaching and learning in senior secondary schools in the Cape Coast metropolis. A total of 270 respondents took part in the survey. Five senior secondary schools were selected. This comprised of teachers and students. Random sampling was used to select the respondents and questionnaires were the instruments used for the survey. The Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0 software to produce frequencies and percentages. Result of the analysis indicated that teachers who had background knowledge in ICT were the ones who used it in their lesson delivery, also students were interested in using ICT in their learning but could not so due to lack of access to the facility in their various schools. This was as a result of inadequacy, or absence of the technology. The study recommended to Government and other stake holders to come to the aid of Senior Secondary Schools to provide ICT infrastructure for these schools, and make them available to students. It was also recommended that ICT training should be organized for teachers to facilitate the smooth integration of ICT into the school curriculum

    Users’ Perception of Library Facilities: Evidence from the University of Cape Coast

    The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of the users’ perception of library facilities on quality of service at Sam Jonah Library University of Cape Coast, Ghana using Library Quality (LibQUAL) model approach. The survey used the LibQUAL+ model to evaluate quality of service at Sam Jonah Library University of Cape Coast, Ghana. The data were collected from library users by administering the LibQUAL+ questionnaire in a printed format. Using the survey design, both open-ended and close-ended questions were used to obtain data from 400 respondents, comprising of 310 and 50 undergraduate and postgraduate students, respectively and 40 faculty members. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 was used to analyze data from the questionnaire and descriptive statistics in the form of frequencies and percentages. Inferential statistics was also used to determine the relationship between gender and adequacy of library resources. Findings from the study showed that majority of the respondents agreed that the library had adequate number of computers to meet their needs. The respondents also affirmed that the library had comfortable tables and chairs for effective learning and a space that is conducive for learning. However, postgraduate students did not consider the library environment conducive for learning. The respondents indicated that the printing materials in the library were inadequate. Students’ expectations were higher than their perceptions on what the library provided. Therefore, the researchers recommended that the library should establish knowledge commons for undergraduate students and research commons for postgraduate students
